Before we explore BBQ desserts… discover how to make sweet BBQ sauce
Before we begin on the desserts, one of the best BBQ treats is a sweet, sticky sauce to go on your ribs, chicken wings, steaks, veg and whatnot. There are zillions of beautiful recipes for it. Here are just three of them:
- The ‘a few short cuts’ website’s version of the best sweet barbecue sauce recipe
- Cooking for my soul
- Simply Scratch
Deeply delicious and desirable desserts for your BBQ
Insanely Good Recipes has pushed the boat out with 24 best BBQ desserts, covering mouth-watering legends like Lime Lemon Poke Cake, Butterscotch Bars, and Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake made in a jam jar. We imagine any jar will do.
The Spruce Eats reveals 21 crowd pleasing BBQ desserts including Pineapple Meringue Pie, Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Bars and the wonderfully-named Blueberry Grunt. Cars can have grunt, AKA lots of power. We’re not sure what a Grunt is in a food context – but it definitely looks delish.
The Happy Foodie, whose name just about sums us up, offers Roasted Treacle Toffee Bananas, a more chocolatey version of which hails from Weymouth in Dorset. Called the Banana Ninny-Nonny, it is made by inserting a Mars bar inside a slit in a banana then putting the skin back on, wrapping it in foil and BBQing the heck out of it. The results are sublime and it’s a fun thing for the kids to do on the barbie. But we digress… the Happy Foodie site also features Orange Flower Water Peaches with Rosemary, Almonds and Cream and cold, refreshing Mojito Granita.
Katalin Nagy at Spatula Desserts has gone overboard with a whopping 31 recipe ideas for BBQ parties. Think Mango Mousse Cake and Caramelised Banana Upside Down Cake, Espresso Brownies and Tiramisu cups. We like her style.
Whimsy and Spice lists 27 BBQ desserts including Rum and Caramel Bananas, Banoffee Trifle, Easy Eton Mess, and the slightly alarming-sounding Loaded Brownies. Loaded with what, we ask. ‘Whatever floats your boat’ is probably the answer.
Cooking With Janica provides another 31 fresh ideas including a Watermelon Pizza, which looks so good we actually said ‘ooh’ out loud, and a Cookies and Cream Pizza. Blackberry Cobbler and Grilled Dessert Nachos join the party along with Lemon Crumb Bars and Pina Colada Lush.
Desserts you can actually cook on your BBQ or chimenea
Banana Ninny-Nonnies are the thin edge of the wedge. Maybe you’re after more dessert recipes you can actually cook on the barbie or chimenea? You’re in luck thanks to Smoked BBQ Sauce, whose Smoked Peach Cobbler and Grilled Cantaloupe with Peach Agrodolce recipes sound rather splendid. But hold on a sec… we draw the line at Smoked Bacon Wrapped Oreos. Basically an Oreo is a super-sweet American chocolate biscuit filled with tooth-murdering ‘white ‘cream’. To create the Wrapped Oreo you simply roll bacon around it. And that, my friends, is verging upon evil.
So there you are. Tasty or what? These sweet BBQ food recipes should keep you going for a few summers!
